THE PEST POSSE - Pest Control
Termites, also commonly known as White Ants, hold the number 1 position amongst all pests for their ability to inflict costly damage to houses, buildings and other similar structures.
Living in colonies that consist of anywhere between one hundred to several million, active termites generally reside in mounds built under and above the ground or in large clumps of wood, feeding on both damp and dry wood in order to survive and continue expansion of the colony.
Termite presence and activity is difficult to detect for an untrained person and is often not recorded until it is too late and damage is extensive. The “worker” termites are responsible for obtaining food for other members of the colony, which is directly taken from the inside out of wood often found in housing structures and resulting in mass destruction.
It is important to understand that a colony of termites could potentially be established up to 100 metres from the property under attack, as these pests tunnel underground to find their food source and carry it back to the colony for the Queen and her remaining subjects.
The winged termite members take flight at certain times of the year to begin establishment of new colonies, hence why termite activity is often spread amongst houses within close proximity.
