 Whilst most Melbourne spiders are harmless, there are a few that pose significant risk to humans and animals with their venomous bite. For instance, redback spiders are known to build their nests in dark, quiet areas outside, such as under bike seats, underneath dog bowls, between cracks in fences and more, and often only appear when disturbed. Whitetail spiders, however, are commonly found both inside and out, often on the move and/or hiding in areas such as clothing left on floors, beneath lounges, between curtains, amongst bed linen and more.
